Developmental neuroscience is becoming increasingly important in clinical child neurology, so it is critical to incorporate specific areas of this knowledge into residency training. Journals such as the Journal of Neuroscience1, Cell2, and Neuron3 now routinely publish articles on the pathogenesis of paediatric neurological disorders, whereas neurology journals such as Annals of Neurology4 frequently report on molecular aspects of these disorders. As a result, training in child neurology should include didactic presentations and group discussions of relevant neurobiology literature, as well as exposure to hands-on research whenever possible.
